‘Build the Barn’ Kickstarter Project
On February 23, 2013 Poplar Wood Farm’s Kickstarter project to build a new pole barn was successfully funded, setting new boundaries for the farm’s future growth. Kickstarter is a crowd funding platform used by individuals and businesses to fund creative projects. To date, over 38,000 projects have been funded through Kickstarter. Poplar Wood Farm launched their Kickstarter project due to the need for additional capacity to wash, pack, and store their produce.
The farm received a tremendous amount of support from the local community, including many of their loyal farmers market customers. In addition, the project received media attention from Forbes for the creative rewards offered to project backers. Other news coverage included articles in the Warren Reporter, Hoboken 411, The Daily Record, and Food Tech Connect.
The barn is up and operational and will allow the farm to operate more efficiently and expand production capacity. Many of the farm's biggest supporters came out to celebrate the opening of the barn and enjoyed a day filled with music, fresh air, and excitement for the future. Since being completed, the 'Build the Barn' project was also featured on the front page of the Star Ledger.
